Fermi, Enrico
(1901-1954). Físico nacido en Italia, uno de los principales arquitectos de la Era Atómica. En 1934 bombardeó Uranio con neutrones de baja velocidad creando, sin saberlo, el elemento 94. Cuatro años más tarde obtuvo el premio Nobel de Física por sus trabajos de bombardeo de neutrones con neutrones lentos y al año siguiente, huyendo del fascismo en su Italia nativa, ingresó como profesor de Física en la universidad neoyorquina Columbia. Se le asignó al llamado "Proyecto Manhattan" y el día 2 de diciembre de 1942 logró la primera reacción en cadena en la Universidad de Chicago. Esto hizo posible las bombas nucleares y los reactores nucleares de nuestros días. Posteriormente se hizo ciudadano norteamericano; murió en Chicago, de cáncer, a la edad de 53 años.
